Music Neath Port Talbot delivers a rich, inclusive programme across primary and secondary schools. Year 4 pupils take part in First Experiences with carousel-style lessons in brass, woodwind, and strings across all schools, supported by one-off Samba, harp, ukulele, and drama days. Each term ends with a school concert, and every primary school is included.
In secondary schools, the Choral Junction Project led to the creation of a county youth choir, while Mr Phormula delivered beatboxing and DJ workshops. Mindfulness sessions are also available to support wellbeing around exam and performance stress. The peri roadshow brings live staff orchestra & band performances to every secondary school, reaching 7,000–8,000 pupils, supporting the primary to secondary transition.
In addition to nurturing future professional musicians, Inclusion is central to the service. Pupils with additional learning needs benefit from Samba workshops, concerts, and specialist teacher visits to help with the use of sensory instruments.
Weekly music centres are free to access and include a wide range of ensembles — from youth choirs and orchestras to brass and big bands — with regular performances and international tours.
Progression is supported through Trinity exam centres and financial support is available if needed. Music Neath Port Talbot also collaborates with partners including the Six County Orchestra , Swansea University Music Society, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cwmtawe Brass Band, and Cory Band, offering side-by-side experiences that inspire and connect young musicians.
