Gwent Music

Contact details

Cerdd Gwent delivers a wide range of music opportunities across Blaenau Gwent, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen – from high-quality tuition and training to inspiring class and individual experiences. Quality and progression are central to the service, with strong safeguarding measures, tutor support, and clear routes from whole-class projects through to individual lessons.

Every Year 3 pupil across the region enjoys taking part in our 10-week First Experiences, where whole classes discover the excitement of making music together before showcasing and celebrating their progress in end-of-term concerts. In secondary schools, the offer broadens to include dynamic projects in beatboxing, DJing, rap, rock and pop and songwriting. The aim is to spark creativity, build confidence, and inspire young people to take music further at GCSE and beyond.

In 2025, exciting new initiatives include cluster choirs in each authority, a partnership with National Youth Arts Wales in Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen, and a Band Support Project in Newport helping young performers develop through production, recording and performance. Pupils also enjoy live recital visits from Cerdd Gwent’s wind, brass and string teams.

Inclusion and progression are at the heart of the service. Bespoke additional learning need provision, music therapy, and adaptive resources ensure access for all. In addition, weekend centres, exam support and UCAS-accredited pathways provide routes for every child and young person to play, sing, create and enjoy music in a safe and inspiring environment.
