Gwynedd and Anglesey Schools Music Service

Contact details

Gwasanaeth Cerdd Ysgolion Gwynedd a Môn is a charitable company that serves 96 schools in Gwynedd by offering instrumental and one-to-one vocal lessons, individual workshops, group work in the classroom, live concerts by professional musicians including our popular tutor band and more. We have a team of talented tutors carrying out this work.

There is a popular extra-curricular programme including instrumental ensembles; young orchestra, brass bands, saxophone choir, harp choir, woodwind ensemble together with a cerdd dant and folk group. Several of these ensembles have been successful at national level.

Our musical company started in 2023 and since then attracts around 70 secondary pupils to develop acting, dancing and singing skills in preparation for performances of original musicals in Welsh by writers such as Lowri Mererid, Mared Llywelyn and Hywel Pitts.

To implement the National Plan for Music Education we are proud of our First Experiences programme which has been delivering a wide range of activities including singing, ukeleles, percussion, keyboards, folk music, and even DJ skills, music technology and stepping or clog dancing.

In Gwynedd the music service works closely with local partners, such as Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias, NEW Sinfonia and Codi’r To which means even more exciting and innovative activities can be held in the schools for pupils across the county.
